Abstract

The author studied the effects of Prostaglandin E,(PGE,) on the gastric secretion and ulcer formation.
The results obtained are as follows:
1. Gastric secretion was collected and analyzed in rats after pylorus ligation. PGE,, administered sub¡©cutaneously after operation inhibited gastric secretion (volume, acid concentration, acid output, but not pepsin concentration). The degree of inhibition was dose-dependent. However, there was not shown more inhibition by above the dose of 800 (1g/kg PGE,.
2. In Shay rats, PGE1 also inhibited strongly gastric secretion and ulcers not only in the mucosa but in the rumen portion. The effect was also dose-dependent.
3. The restraint stress ulcers was not induced in the rumen but in the mucosa portion. The effect of PGE1 was significantly lessened on the restraint stress ulcers, comparing with the effect on shay ulcers.
4. It might be summarized that PGE1 acted directly on the apparatus of secreting cells rather than on the adenyl cyclase-cyclic AMP system in the gastric mucosa of rats.
